I don't really do pick up lines etc, but I think one of my favorite "Hi, intro, could be flirty in a weird kind of way" set of lines is from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, my favorite movie of all times (just in front of everything James Dean did).

Clementine: Hi!
Joel: Excuse me?
Clementine: I just said hi.
Joel: Oh! Hi, hello.
Clementine: I'm Clementine... No jokes about my name.
Joel: I don't know any jokes about your name.
Clementine: Huckleberry Hound.
Joel: I don't know what that is.
Clementine: Huckleberry Hound!
[singing]
Clementine: Oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling Clementine.
Joel: I don't know what that means.
Clementine: Are you NUTS?
Joel: It's been suggested.

Ok SHE approached him. He's completely oblivious, even to a HI! I can totally relate the rambling about the unusual name. He's still oblivious, this time to just general pop culture knowledge and has no clue what to do with her so he figures he'll accuse her of being nuts? And yet... IT WORKED! She did win him over -- well of course their love was tried a bit, if you never saw the movie (shame on you) I won't spoil it but yeah... She mostly won him over, with some trials along the way, of course.

Hi, so simple it's not even a line and then rambling on into something people can relate to like being teased about your name? Who needs traditional lines? She totally knew how to get attention.

How about you? Do you like to use lines? Have some that work? Think you can prove it? If so, the people at Ultimate Flirting Championship have a way for you to prove it -- Test them out by playing their game!

So I went and saw Tropic Thunder this weekend. I'm not sure I get what all of the protesting fuss is about. People are protesting the "black face" which isn't actually technically "black face" per se. They're protesting the word "retard". It's an insulting movie, etc. Ok, I suppose I can see why people would take offense. But it's a comedy. And I thought, and maybe it's just me trying to read more into it than I should? But *I* thought it was a smart, though crude, comedy. One that was spoofing the fact that people are racist idiots who say stupid things. It wasn't a racist movie. It wasn't using the word retard to offend people. If anything, it was MAKING FUN of racists, of people who use the word retard. Or at least that is what I got out of it. So either I'm just trying to make the movie out to be something smarter than it was or others are too quick to judge and weren't giving the movie enough credit.

Personally, I laughed my ass off through most of the movie. Hell, even the previews were good ;) And I'm usually offended by stupid people who are racist, who use words like "retard" or "gay" etc as insults. This movie just didn't offend me. Making fun of how absurd it sounds when people really talk like that = a good thing in fact. The fact that people LAUGHED at it probably means they KNOW it sounds stupid and wrong.

Hmm, so Robert Downey, Jr. was interviewed here...
And now I'm trying to figure out this paragraph:

Which apparently was not the case with the other big summer movie "The Dark Knight". "My whole thing is that that I saw 'The Dark Knight'. I feel like I'm dumb because I feel like I don't get how many things that are so smart. It's like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I'm like, 'That's not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.' I loved 'The Prestige' but didn't understand 'The Dark Knight'. Didn't get it, still can't tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I'm like, 'I get it. This is so high brow and so f--king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.' You know what? F-ck DC comics. That's all I have to say and that's where I'm really coming from."

I seriously hope he was kidding. He didn't get it... that many things are so smart... He's got to be kidding. I really really reaaaaaaaaaly hope he's kidding anyway. It's hard to sense sarcasm in a written story, writers so seldomly get it right, but I hope that was the tone. Because if he is serious, wtf? A comic book story that is smart is bad? A movie in general that is smart is bad? College education to understand it? Really? I don't think that's the case, but even if it is, I personally LOVE smart movies. In fact movies so smart I'm still thinking about them after, movies that make me feel dumb are fine with me. Movies that make me question things. Anyone can make a movie that's just action or just funny or just run of the mill... but smart, so few of those. And as much I loved TDK, I'm not sure it's so smart you need a college degree to get it, really.. WTF? He had to be kidding.

This weekend I bought and read:

I must say it was good, I don't often read a book in less than 24 hours. I ignored the "OMFG glittery vampires WTF??!?" chatter. My only gripe was early in my reading, the author, I felt was a bit too flowery -- too gushy over Edward and his perfection. But then I realized, hello teenage girl in love with teenage boy. When I was a teenage girl, I sooo acted like that over boys, much lesser boys at that age so I let it go.

I ended up ordering New Moon (The Twilight Saga, Book 2), Eclipse (The Twilight Saga, Book 3) and Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga, Book 4)

However, I also went to IMDB today and noticed the trailer for the movie due out in December. I have to admit I wasn't that impressed, not enough to see it in theaters, I'm sure I'll check it out when it hits DVD or PPV. But some of it doesn't seem right after reading even just the first book. I dunno. Videos on the official Movie You Tube Channel Here. Something about some of what I saw reminds me of when I was younger and LOVED the Flowers in the Attic series, and they attempted to make it a movie and totally screwed it up so bad I'd call it one of the worst book to movie attempts ever. But we'll see I guess. And I'm just discovering the series I wonder why the fans who know the series better think so far.
